Flexi bits are made from a polyurethane material which is light and flexible. They are extremely soft and kind to the horse’s mouth and are suitable for sensitive horses and those not comfortable in a conventional steel bit. The mouthpiece is warmer to the touch than traditional stainless steel bits and is more readily accepted by the horse.
These continental gag bits work by raising the bit up in the horse’s mouth like a conventional gag, but limiting the extent this can happen therefore lessening the severity. The cheek of the plastic covered jointed continental gag involves a series of steel rings, the main snaffle ring with one smaller ring above for the cheek piece and two below, enabling three different positions for the reins.
